In the first election,George H.W. Bush ran for reelection representing the Republican Party while Bill Clinton ran for the Democratic Party. The outcome was that Bush had 37.5% of the popular vote while Clinton received 43% of the vote and won the election. In 1997, Clinton ran for reelection against Bob Dole, the representative from the Republican Party. Clinton won the presidential election for a second time with 49% of the popular vote while Dole had 40% of the vote.
